Guys…its recession time. So…?Ohh…it’s bad!Really..?So…?Do we pack up our e-commerce business, when companies all over the world are falling left, right and center…?Well…my take is a big big ‘NO’. I say… E-Commerce can be Recession Proof!!! With a e-commerce business, we a be certain of few things…First: During a recession, people don’t stop spending they spend smarter. This is beneficial for e-commerce websites because people believe that they get better deals online and are more likely than ever to make purchases online. Second: Customers can compare prices online (make sure your prices are competitive) and so your business can never be at stake.Third: Tough times ahead…huh? So it’s better to shop with few clicks than burning your fuel and going all the way to the malls! The motto is… ‘Save Fuel’. Fourth: Product imaging has improved greatly with the advent of Next Gen Web… Customers can now view hi-resolution product images and videos in seconds online.Fifth: This is a time when product reviews becomes very important…you certainly don’t want to spend without knowing if it’s really worth it. Customers are more likely to buy a product if they can read reviews about it.Sixth: A Cutting overhead cost is one of the first things many businesses do to survive a recession. E-Commerce websites enjoy some of the lowest overhead costs of any business operating today. For small e-commerce businesses you are looking at very low overhead costs each month. Seventh: Hey for the merchants out there… compared to many traditional methods of advertising brick and mortar businesses, your e-commerce website can be advertised fairly cheaply. So, fair amount of cost saved here. Eighth: Last but not the least… people will come to you as buying online is simply more convenient for most customers. As you can see from the above points, it’s pretty obvious e-commerce websites are poised to not only survive the recession, but also have the potential to prosper. So go to bed with a relaxed mind…you are gonna survive the bad days this time!!!Â

What makes the RIA different? How can they help my business? Well, these are the questions, which will definitely cross your mind if you are an entrepreneur. So let’s take a look at how differently and effectively can RIA add value to your business.
Rich Internet Applications are more responsive, interactive in nature and visually appealing than the other existing applications. Rich Internet Applications (RIA) can help your business a great deal by speeding up their processes and thus, creating a better experience for the end users. The Rich Internet Applications come with advanced features, which add up to bring out the best web technology for the end-users.
With the boom in the industry, the Rich Internet Applications are gaining quite a prominence with the businesses. RIAs have almost all the features of what we call the traditional desktop applications. RIAs typically transfer the processing necessary for the user interface to the Web client but keep the bulk of the data (i.e., maintaining the state of the program, the data etc.) back on the application server, which saves you the time of refreshing a page repeatedly.
Let’s see how does RIA work and where it stands apart from rest of the applications. Traditional web applications are mostly with client server architecture with the thin client. In case of RIA, all interaction needs to pass through the server. Normally in this approach we will pass some data to the server and server gives the response and then we are sending back the data to the client layer.
Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) introduce intermediate layer between the user and the server. This layer is usually downloaded as part of the instantiation of the application, and may be supplemented by further code downloads as use of the application progresses. The client engine acts as an extension of the browser, and usually takes over responsibility for rendering the application’s user interface and for server communication.
From software development perspective RIA follows a standard software development model with rich controls that include powerful data and multimedia capability allowing us to present a rich set of information in an attractive interface. From design perspective, RIA delivers highly customizable output with a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) based model.
So it’s time for you to take up RIA and see your ROI soar high. So how soon are you planning to try it out?

Think what happens if you are in the middle of checking your mails and snap goes your Internet connection!!! What about the important presentation that you are supposed to plan…? How about this option…you hit the save button and in the quiet of no connectivity, you launch your desktop applications, and continue working on a couple of projects! Later on you log in to your application to find the presentation, synced automatically while you saved it.  You will be happy that you don’t have to worry about things like real-time data push or additional run-times. What if you have an application that keeps all your information and project details in one place to be retrieved from any corner of the world! …And this is how RIA, Rich Internet Application, works flawlessly on your desktop as well as web, at once.  The latest and heavily touted acronym RIA stands for Rich Internet Application that normally runs on a web page but provides the same functionality as a normal desktop application. RIA enables pseudo form of caching that lowers the amount of round trips to a server thus making the user interfaces more interactive and perform faster. These applications use a runtime engine that is downloaded to the user’s machine. The engine enables the application to handle all the interaction with the user. It only talks to an application server when necessary. RIAs is also about a rich set of features for the user interface such as animation or the ability to drag and drop, that makes them more interesting for the end users. The major technologies that are used to build Rich Internet Applications include JavaFX, AJAX, Flex and Silverlight.  Is RIA gonna’ be the latest popular buzzword, as it makes work more interesting for the next generation techies! What do you think…let us know.Â
